A few words of introduction

This section contains a selection of photos taken while on my travels around the world. The emphasis is on landscape, nature and portraits of the characters encountered along the way. Whether it’s the raw beauty of Africa, the streets and history of Europe’s capitals, the colourful images of Asia, the warmth of the Americas or the quaintness and charm of the British Isles, my camera has been with me capturing all that this amazing world has to offer.

My first camera was a Pentax MZ-50 which was purchased in Australia in 2000. This is still often carried with me on my travels and produces great photos. I generally prefer using this camera for black and white as well as macro photography. My favourite colour negative film remains the Velvia 50 which produces amazing colours. Since that first purchase its been a gradual progression to the digital age.

The majority of photos featured have been taken with a Pentax ist* D digital camera using a standard 28-80mm, 17-35mm wide angle or 80-320 zoom lens. At the beginning of 2007 my need for a camera upgarde resulted in me purchasing the Canon Mark II N as well as a few new Canon lenses i.e. 100-400mm IS, the 105mm Macro, the 28-105mm IS and a Canon extender 2X. For flash I use the Canon Speedlite 580-EX. Memory cards are a combination of Sandisk SD and Compact Flash.

Hopefully the photos portray a deeper feel for the places I visit, the soul and identity of the people encountered, and ultimately leave you with an appetite to get out there and experience what this beautiful planet has to offer.
